Do you write online reviews?

Main Post:

I never write online reviews, especially for Amazon products that already have a lot of reviews. Even if clothes don’t fit, an item is cheap or broken, I never write reviews. I never wrote any Yelp reviews but that’s largely because I’m a bartender and I find that site to be insufferable.

My Millennial pals are definitely more apt to blast their opinion online if it’s warranted. I’ll leave feedback if it affects the account of the seller (Etsy, eBay) but otherwise I feel like it’s writing into the void to give my opinion.

Is this another weird existential Gen X thing were we don’t think our opinions matter on the internet either?

Top Comment: I write them on Amazon for things I wish someone had said when I was looking at the reviews, whether it’s positive or negative.

How do you go about writing your reviews?

Main Post:

When you get done watching a movie do you go to log your move and write a review then or do you take some time to outline your thoughts and then structure a review around that? How long would you realistically wait before posting a review to your account?

I’m at a point where I do both but I want to get back into a routine of writing reviews regularly and make the reviews worthwhile (as worthwhile as I can make them at least). I know that a lot of it comes down to planning, but I guess to direct the question further - do you write your reviews when you’re done with a movie, or do you wait? If so, how long do you wait for?

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this!

Top Comment: I write a review for every movie I watch right after I finish watching it. That way, everything is still fresh in my mind and I can remember some of the finer details of what I just saw. Pretty much every movie, good or bad, gives me enough to talk about for me to write at least two paragraphs about it on the spot I don’t do any planning, I just say what comes to mind

Has anyone gotten paid to write reviews? How is it?

Main Post:

I've noticed a lot of restaurants pay for reviews on Google and DoorDash while other companies will pay for reviews on Amazon and Ebay. I know there are other situations where this applies. I know of a few companies that offer this service. Has anyone had experience doing this? What's it like, and how much time does it take?

any idea why I can't write reviews in Google maps?

Main Post: any idea why I can't write reviews in Google maps?

Top Comment: I wrote a detailed, negative review on Google Maps (here's the same review on my blog - https://www.tavres.com/freddys-frozen-custard-steakburgers-customer-service-fail/ ) and Google banned me from being a "Local Guide" even though I was a level 8. I requested that Google do a review of my account and got the 'this decision is final' boot. It's disturbing that they won't allow negative reviews.

Anyone else want to see Sony let us write reviews for games on the PS Store in addition to the star rating system?

Main Post:

This is honestly kind of annoying. I will be checking out a game on the PS Store and all I see are star ratings. Stars are indicative of the quality of the game in some ways, but it feels sort of shallow to me. I wanna see people leave comments about what they may or may not like about a game in addition to their overall opinion. I feel like written reviews could definitely be more important for games with 3.5 to 4 stars where there could be a struggle between pros and cons. I guess its just another thing the PS Store might need. What do you guys think?

Top Comment:

The only way I'd be for it is if they did what Apple did with App Store reviews - you can only write one if you have the game. Couldn't care less for all the fanboys and haters writing about something they haven't even played (case in point - metacritic user reviews)

Google does not show the reviews I write, never gave heads up

Main Post:

So, sometime ago I realized that Google is not showing the reviews I write. despite making the review appear as publicly posted for my login..I see them but when I go incognito or even search from another phone with their email address, my review does not appear in the list as expected.

I feel this is intentional bc it shows under mine leaving me to think the public can read it but nope, it is nonexistent to anyone else

Has anyone else encountered this or can provide info in how to fix it? I cant even find info how to report it but based on what I read, sounds like they single handedly choose whether to block you or not..

thanks

Top Comment: This is very normal. Google will and has always taken down reviews that are non-compliant with the guidelines. That said the AI patroling reviews is not always correct. If you live inside the EU you can check if you are offered the option to appeal the hiding of individual reviews. About a year ago Google started informing users when their contributions get taken down. You will see new !-warnings in your photo and review contribution lists. With the amount of fake reviews posted daily Google was forced to take some action. Also the EU regulation forced the big tech companies to be more transparent and demand options to allow appeals. The system is still being developed and is not yet fine-tuned. If you are a local guide you might find a form on Connect you can try.

How can i write better/simpler and spiler free reviews?

Main Post:

Hi, i have a newsletter where i review the latest theatre releases each week.

i started it 3 months ago, it's structured in a simple and easy to read way (or at least i think so).

I try to keep my reviews short and spoiler free, because the idea is that when you recieve it on fridays you can read it and see my reccomandations for the movies to watch that weekend.

i'm sure i can improve in my writing and my terminology.

i think you are the right community to help me without whiping me away with criticism.

every feedback is highly appreciated.

you can read some reviews here 👇

Main Post:

Best Essay Writing Service Reddit 2024/2025

Main Post:

Hey Reddit!

I'm reaching out for some advice. With a hectic schedule this month, I'm down to just one day off each week, and it's been impossible to catch up on my favorite shows. By the end of the day, I'm so exhausted that sleep is my only priority. For the first time, I'm thinking about using an essay writing service to lighten my load and help manage my time better.

I need suggestions for a trustworthy essay writing service for using this college season 2024/25, especially one with expertise in business and management topics. It's crucial that any completed essays pass a plagiarism check to meet academic standards. If you've had positive experiences with a reputable essay service, I'd appreciate your recommendations.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Top Comment: Wow, PaperHelp is still going strong in 2025, huh? That's awesome! I remember when it first started getting popular, everyone was talking about how easy it was to get well-written essays done quickly. It's cool to see that they’re still in the game and even more popular now. I guess if you've got a good formula and can keep up with changing student needs, you're set for success. Have you tried using them lately, or are you just keeping up with the trends?

A Review of Yelp Reviews

Main Post:

Okay, I don't often post reviews, but I recently had an experience that was so bad that I had to write about it. Short version: a couple of months ago, I took my ailing cat to a local emergency veterinary hospital, and I was treated so badly that I left and took him to a different one. One example: the woman at the front desk said, "he doesn't look sick." It turned out that he was terminally ill and I lost him shortly after.

So I wrote a one-star Yelp review about the experience. Last night, for no particular reason, I went to look at my review to see if anyone had commented on it, but I couldn't find it. After some digging, I found it sequestered with a lot of other one-star reviews for that hospital, and a statement that they're not included in the calculations for that business. I saw on the site somewhere that businesses can't ask or pay to have poor reviews removed, but it appears that Yelp does it for them.

So much for objectivity.

Top Comment: Your post starts with “I don’t often post reviews,” which is likely a major factor in the weighing of your—and all—reviews. The reviews left by established reviewers have more weight. An account that just has one or a few grievance reviews does not have the weight of an established account with a variety of reviews. Personally, when I read any reviews (not just on Yelp), I consider whether the reviewer is established: do they review regularly, or are they just giving a single positive or negative review, indicating they are a fan or have a vendetta. Obviously, your experience is valid and the practice treated you poorly, but single experiences are part of a whole used to rate a business. I’m really sorry about your poor experience during the loss of your companion. That’s so tough. I’m sorry for your loss.
